Visual Puns and Dicitonary

For these two assignments, first I had to think of three different puns and use gimp to put two or more pictures together. For Dictionary I had to pick a word and illustrate it with gimp. With these assignments I learned that I can have fun in gimp and how to use more of gimp's tools.

Gimp School Context

Above is my School Context assignment that was done in gimp. What we had to do, was put things in the school that you wouldn't normally see. I did dinosaurs, and I learned from this assignment how to copy and paste different images in gimp and how to use many tools of gimp.

Architecture Assignment

The photo below is my best picture for architecture. It is a picture of one of the churches in downtown Saline. In this assignment, I learned how to look at buildings in different ways to get more interesting photographs.

Gimp Motion Assignment

For this Gimp assignment, I took a picture of someone riding a bike past me. My goal was to make the subject in focus and the background blurry. I learned how to take pictures of things in motion.

The picture below is my best photo of shadows and light. It's a picture of my driveway, and the shadows are the trees on either side. With this assignment, I learned how to use not only light, but dark (shadow) to make a picture contrast better.

Gimp Portrait

For this assignment, I had to take a picture of someone using the studio lights, and the other by using window light. I learned how to take better photos of people with different light.

The photo below is my best picture for nature, and it is a photo of a line of trees in the woods. From this assignment, I learned how to capture different aspects of nature. Below my top picture, I have a small slide show of other pictures that I took.

The picture below is my best picture of nature. It is a pine tree branch with snow on it. From this assignment I learned how to find photos that are better seen in black and white.

Gimp Assignment #2

For this second Gimp assignment, I edited a picture of a car by changing the background, and doing some detailing. From this assignment, I learned how to edit photos even more than just changing the light and sharpness.

For my Animal assignment, the picture above is my #1. It is a picture of one of my dogs sitting. I took this at my house while she was out playing. I took this because it shows her after a lot of running, taking a little rest; which shows her personality... which is quiet and calm usually.

Gimp Assignment #1

 For this assignment I had to use Gimp to do a 'Andy Warhol-style' picture. I just took a picture of myself and colored each square differently. From Gimp, I learned how do do these kind of photos, without just using Photobooth.

For my first assignment, I hope to take good pictures of my dog like the pictures above. I'll probably do a close up on my dog, or maybe even an action shot. But I think a close-up will look cuter and more focused. I want to take a picture of my dog because hes a good animal to take pictures of and it won't bother him. Also, it'll be easier I think to take a picture of my dog because with wild animals, you can't get them to 'sit' or 'stay'.

Composition 1 & 2

Assignment:  We had to take 11 pictures around school (even home) to display the 11 different aspects we've learned so far about photography.

What I learned: I learned how to take pictures better, and to focus more on any of the 11 aspects; depth of field, rule of thirds, lines, symmetry, texture, space, balance, color, frame, perspective and pattern. With these, I know how to take pictures with more meaning.

Lines is the Stairs looking down.
Rule of Thirds is the tree in the snow.
Depth of field is the handrail.
Pattern is the lockers.
Symettry is the snowflake salt shakers.
Texture is ice on the ground.
Balance is the picture of the metal seats.
Perspective is a door, looking down.
Space is the footprint.
Frame is the tree outside with the framed window around it.
Color is the green box with a hole in it.
